Lottery customer encounters customer no-service with ticket problem

Posted: 09 Jan 2012 09:11 AM PST

I was at the 7-Eleven at U.S. Highway 17-92 and Airport Boulevard in Sanford this morning when James came in to cash a couple of scratch-off tickets.

He had won $20 on a $10 Monopoly ticket, but when he tried to cash it, the book of tickets had not been activated.

The clerks on duty, Jeff and Chuck, tried calling some 7-Elevens in the area of Orlando where James said he bought the ticket, but could not locate the right store.

So I suggested that James call the Florida Lottery’s customer service department. I figured with the number of the ticket they could call the store and tell them to activate it.

Unfortunately, their solution was for James to mail the ticket to Tallahassee.

So they wanted James to wait weeks to get his money and take the chance that the ticket got lost in the mail?

This is not the kind of customer service I have grown to expect out of the Florida Lottery.

It’s a shame the Lottery folks were as interested in helping one of their regular customers as the clerks at Manjeet’s 7-Eleven were, especially considering it is the first time James had ever stopped there.
