How would you take your Lucky for Life money? Posted: 05 Apr 2012 09:48 AM PDT Lizvette Almodovar had a tough choice to make this week. She scratched off a top prize of $1,000 a week for life in the Florida Lottery’s $2 Lucky $1,000 a Week for Life scratch-off game. Almodovar opted to receive the winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment in the amount of $818,498.21. Was that the right choice? Life expectancy for woman in Orange County is 80-plus years. If she lived to $80, she would have received more than $2.8 million. What would you do? There are still two top prizes in the $2 game, which launched Feb. 7. Almodovar purchased her winning ticket at the Publix, 6485 S. Chickasaw Trail, Orlando. The Florida Lottery introduced its first Lucky for Life-themed scratch-off game 15 years ago with the $2 Win for Life game. It performed so well that it was reintroduced in 1999 and 2000. In 2004, $10 Set for Life was launched, offering top prizes of $5,000 a year for life. That was followed by the first $20 Lucky for Life ticket, offering top prizes of $100,000 a year. Currently, there are five Lucky for Life-themed scratch-off games available, ranging in price from $1 to $20. |
