Play 4 prizes will be increased by 20 percent for next month

The Florida Lottery's Play 4 game launched 20 years ago this month and to celebrate that, prizes are being enhanced for a month beginning today.

I see many more people playing Cash 3 than Play 4.

In fact, other the Play 4 tickets I have received as part of a Grouper, I can count on one hand the number of times I have played the game. But I know a lot of players embrace the game.

Until Aug. 21, all Play 4 prize payouts will be increased 20 percent. That means the top prize for a $1 play will be $6,000 instead of $5,000.

"We are thankful for Florida Lottery players, who have embraced Play 4 for the past 20 years," said Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O'Connell. "Their support of the Play 4 game has generated consistent revenue for the benefit of education in our state."

All Play 4 prizes under $600 may be redeemed at any Florida Lottery retailer. Combined prizes of $600 or more must be claimed at a Florida Lottery district office.

Play 4 drawings are held twice daily, seven days per week, at 1:30 p.m. and 7:57 p.m.

Play 4 was introduced July 4, 1991. Since then, several play types and twice-daily drawings have been added to the game.

Preliminary figures show the game generated $236 million in sales in fiscal 2011 which contributed about $93 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.
